Marcia Bennett-Male

After studying art at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, Marcia Bennett-Male went on to train as an architectural stone carver and letter cutter at the City and Guilds of London Art School before being granted a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship to train as a stonemason at the Building Craft College. Her work can be viewed in locations around the UK, including the Dulwich Picture Gallery and she has exhibited in New York and Mexico City. She has also taught stone carving for many years, working with institutions including the British Museum, the Royal Academy and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. She works at Thames-Side Studios in London.

With my stone carvings I feel as Toni Morrison didabout books and writing: “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” As a result, I am continuing with my depiction of a fictional forgotten civilisation – The Lost Royals – down to their very bones.
