We are delighted to be showing Marcia’s work for the first time. Marcia has always been inspired by all things culinary and now, in her Lost Royals trilogy, she has carved heads derived from the Green Man, a vegetative deity found in many cultures. As with the Green Man, the vegetation on the Royals is not just worked into their hair but is a physical part of them. Marcia has let the natural formation of the boulder dictate the form.
After studying art at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, Marcia went on to train as an architectural stone carver and letter cutter at the City and Guilds of London Art School before being granted a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship to train as a stone mason at the Building Craft College. Her sculptures can be viewed in locations around the UK, including the Dulwich Picture Gallery, and she has exhibited in New York and Mexico City. She has also taught stone carving for many years, working with institutions such as the British Museum, the Royal Academy and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. She works at Thames-Side Studios in London.
