David Worthington

Recently, I have become fascinated by the application of colour to marble and stone. Historical reconstructions show that sculpture from ancient Greece through to the middle ages would have looked almost garish and lifelike with paint, even on the faces. This is shocking to our eyes, which are accustomed to seeing cool marble or warm limestone. “Experiment in Colour” is a comment on the place of sculpture in the contemporary world, where all design aims to be sculptural but sculptors are frowned on for making objects..David graduated from Oxford in 1984 in Philosophy and Theology and has MAs in both Visual Culture and Computer Arts. He has carried out many public and private commissions in Europe and the USA and was Glyndebourne’s sculptor-in-residence in 2001. He sits on the Council of The Royal British Society of Sculptors and was elected Vice President in 2010. He has curated shows at Woburn Abbey ,Glyndebourne, and the Chelsea Physic Garden. He exhibited at Horatio’s Garden & Leicester University in 2013. He opened the gallery Fox & Worthington Fine Art in Bridport in 2013 with his wife Jane Fox where they show national and international artists.
