Unique opportunity for committed gardener

We are looking for a full-time gardener to join our friendly team at Asthall Manor. At least some experience and a basic knowledge of (and love for) plants and the processes of gardening are required. You would be the second full-time gardener, working with our head gardener with the assistance of part-timers freelancers. Work would include pruning, hedge cutting, planting, propagating, pool care and other duties. Much of this is physically strenuous work, and you need to be confident on ladders and sensible with machinery.  There is also plenty of scope for initiative and creativity. Protective equipment would be provided, as would any necessary training, for the right candidate.

The garden was designed by Isabel & Julian Bannerman in 1998. It has now become known as the home of on form sculpture, a biennial exhibition of sculpture in stone which attracts over 7,000 visitors every other summer. There are some smaller open days, and group visits, but for most of the time, the garden is  private and quiet.

Asthall was featured in 'Secret Gardens of the Cotswolds' by Victoria Summerley, and 'English Gardens' by Clive Nichols, both published in 2015, and in Isabel & Julian Bannerman’s own book, “Landscape of Dreams.” The garden was also featured in the Daily Telegraph gardening section in January 2017 with special reference to the gardening team’s unique method of rose pruning.

Hours are Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm and occasional weekend work (for extra pay.)

Salary negotiable.
