Mat Chivers

Mat Chivers uses his work to explore the fundamental dynamics
underlying environmental processes and phenomena. He is particularly
interested in explorations of growth, moments within a process and
ideas relating to states of flux.

There is a tension in the work because forms alluding to transience and change are created from stone, the material of permanence and tradition.  The work is not about beauty, despite the often seductive surfaces and the manner in which
processes are presented. Redolent of decay as much as of
benign, creative expansion,  the work can be seen as
an exploration of imagined landscapes as well as external events.
