Ana Ruiz Agui

Ana Ruiz, of Spanish origin, comes from a family where art and music have always been present. She graduated in Fine Arts from the University of La Laguna, Tenerife, and won an Erasmus scholarship to study in Italy, where she decided finally to specialise in sculpture. The most important result of this period was the discovery of a delight in stone.

Ana then moved to Valencia, and later to Germany, learning stone-carving techniques from a wide range of sculptors, and winning first prize in the Simposium de Escultura al Aire Libro.

Much of Ana’s current work is exploring the inner state of pregnancy. She seeks to create sculpture with character, without getting lost in the details, allowing the material to speak for itself and breathe.
