Sarah Smith
Sarah Smith is a sculptor who currently works mainly in stone. Born in 1965 in Yorkshire, Sarah has exhibited widely throughout the UK, including London and Glasgow. Sarah is greatly influenced by the local limestone in her work – and enjoys a dialogue with the stone by leaving the moss and lichen that time has given and revealing underneath the origin and beauty of the stone.
Sarah’s sculpture are suitable for both internal and external space and often reveal her fascination for what is underneath, what is hidden, what can be revealed both in a literal sense but also in relation to the growth of human consciousness – what we hide, what is inside. The influences of the sculptor Alan Thornhill and past modern masters such as Constantin Brancusi have helped shape Sarah’s thoughts on sculpture and how she pursues her ideas.
“…. The only true art will come from what you find inside yourself” – Brancusi
