RAGA
Born in Spain, Jordi Raga Francés has studied Art in the USA, Spain, Italy, Mexico and Greece. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in Valencia and won a scholarship to study marble sculpture in Carrara, Italy. After moving to France to work on Heritage Restoration he found a way of living, travelling and meeting other cultures that would greatly influence his artistic output. That path dragged him to work in the restoration of the Propilea building and the Acropolis, Athens, and then to England where he worked in both Gloucester and Canterbury Cathedrals. He has taken part in a number of Sculpture Symposiums, exhibited in Europe and has work in both public and private collections. He currently lives and works in Valencia, Spain.
Printed in stone the Earth’s History reminds us about the “transformation cycle” where we take part and play an active role being conscious. The scale adopted in a lifetime broadens considerably when compared to a rock, a continent or the whole of a planet. So I focus my research from that time perspective, observing the poetry on the ageing processes like erosions, corrosions and the natural cycles of life and death. I could say my interest is on transformation itself, so I picture it, frame it or put it into words.
