Jon Edgar was born in 1968 and is a sculptor of the former Frink School, an intimate academy that recognised the human figure as its first source of inspiration. Earlier postgraduate studies in ecology and landscape influenced his work, with natural forms supporting and reinforcing the human figure. He carves without preconception, building layers of ambiguity into the work by successively rejecting what starts to emerge, turning the block and reworking until something unforeseen asserts itself more strongly than previous themes or forms.
He is an Arts Council for England award winner. He has had a solo exhibition at Hereford Cathedral and work selected for one of Chelsea Flower Show’s medal-winning gardens.
Jon Edgar has recently moved to West Sussex. His work for on form 08 included pieces carved from stones that originally formed part of the buildings at Asthall.
