Aly Brown

Born in 1957, Aly studied sculpture at Heatherley’s Art School in London from 2000 – 2003. Since achieving her Sculpture diploma she has been based in her studio in Battersea, London. Her works are in various private collections worldwide, and she has exhibited in numerous shows in both London and Norway, where she has a home and studio.

Aly is currently interested in evoking the fluid and flexible nature of stone. Her inspiration comes from photographing landscapes such as the beautiful sand dunes of Namibia and the stormy seas and dramatic landscapes and fjords of Norway. She looks for shapes in the stone that reflect the dynamic forms and power of nature such as waves, wind and sand. Just as, in a photograph, a living form can be fixed in the absolute stillness of silver gelatine, so Aly’s sculptures achieve a sense of dynamic life, frozen in the stillness and eternity of the subtle and beautiful stone in which she works.
